"Oldest UFO SAL"

This is one of my "oldest UFO". I think I started a few stitches about 8 - 10 years ago. I can't remember exact year but it was a gift to me from my mother. I decided to join Evaline's "Oldest UFO" challenge 2012 to encourage me to finish this lovely design. The designer is Tom Taylor.

Dinosaur for pajama bag

I just finished stitching the dinosaur from World of Cross-Stitching magazine to "finish" as a pajama bag for my youngest grandson. The fabric is a collection of dinosaurs. The drawstring has lining inside which I follow the tutorial from the internet.

Monday, December 12, 2011

This is as far as I got when I last stitched "Dawn Tuskers" about 19 years ago. I think I got sidetracked with other designs/charts or I developed a case of startism and completely forgotten that I had put this aside in my stash bin.

Coasters for mugs -3

This is for my 2nd son who loves to drink coffee. I bought a gift certificate for him to buy coffee from his favorite coffee store and his coasters has Hawaiian turtle theme since he used to live in Hawaii during the winter seasons.

Coasters for mugs - 2

I made up 4 coasters with West Coast totem material for my mother.

Coasters for mugs

I am starting to enjoy my sewing machine and making coasters is a good way to get back into the groove. This is a coaster with dog's paws. The left photo is the back of the coaster and the right photo is the front. Jolihen, from the Stitcher's Village is teaching me how to make coasters.

drawstring pajama bag

This is my husband's drawstring pajamas bag for our RV.

drawstring pajama bag

A long time ago, I joined Helga Mendal's Mystery SAL and when I finished stitching her design, I put it in my drawer to decide what finishing I wanted to do. I finally decided to make it into a pajama bag for my RV since we travel during the summer. The bag says "back on the road again". I made another pajama bag for my DH using travel signs fabric in the States.

Mitten motifs for wicker basket

I am stitching motifs for 3 wicker baskets. My grandson is almost 3 years old so I needed to stitch motifs of what is inside the wicker basket. This one will have mittens only inside. (Photo on the right) The second one will have a scarves only motif and the third one will have toques only motif. He will be able to take the basket from the shelves to get what he wants without taking all of the basket down and dump them on the floor to find what he wants.

bath hand puppets

Bath hand puppets for grandson's Christmas presents. There are 10 different characters. So far, I have done ladybug, frog, lamb and bear.

I am struggling with my stitching ability on the sewing machine. I think it is because I am still new to appliques on terry cloths. I found out that I was supposed to use a stabilizer cloth underneath the terry cloth when stitching appliques. But the fusible web underneath the nose, eyes, mouth, etc is causing my machine to tangle the threads so I ended up hand stitching around those areas. I am self-taught and I thought I needed to broaden out my stitching ability. Back to my favorite hobby which is more relaxing on my nerves.....cross-stitching!

"Christmas Kisses"

Just finished "Christmas Kisses" from The World of Cross Stitching magazine, Issue #181, page 8. The bird is underneath the mistletoe which the mouse is holding and waiting for a kiss. I will be making it into an ornament in a few days. This was a fun stitch!!

"Space Robot"

I just finished my "Space Robot" from the World of Cross Stitching, Issue #180, page 33 for 4 grandsons. I made the pajama bag out of space ship material into a drawstring bag. The lining is solid color of their favorite color and each boy has their own initial letter on the gift tag to put outside of the Christmas gift wrapping when ready. First I have to buy new pajama to put into their bag, then I am ready to wrap them up. Next project will be to figure out what I want to stitch, make or to get for my son and DIL.

Tuck Pillow

Well, I finally had the courage to stitch my first "tuck pillow" for a gift to one of the ladies that attended the Quadra Island stitch get-together! I will be making quite a few of different stitching design for the tuck pillows. Each ladies has their own favorite theme and colors. I am still working on "Meerkat Standing" in rotation. I have 9 more to go so I will be alternating my smalls and the "Meerkat Standing".

"Meerkat Standing"

Just an update of my progress on "Meerkat Standing". Soon the meerkat's head will be showing.

I stitched during the stitching get-together at Quadra Island last weekend. It was a great experience and I got to meet the ladies that I have been in contact with for many years in our Canadian cross stitching yahoo group. Our next stitching get-together will be in New Brunswick in 2014. We are all looking forward to that new adventure.

Christmas gift tags

I managed to finished my grandson's christmas gift tags done. All I will need to do is to buy Christmas gifts when I received their Christmas wish list in November. Now I need to stitch tags for the adults in our family. Sons, Daughter-in-law, parents and grandparents. The adults will have a Christmas theme gift tag instead.

"Meerkat Standing"

I will also be taking this with me to the Quadra Island stitch get-together over the weekend. I will be stitching in rotation both designs...... hopefully will have the meerkat's face done. I love stitching this as it is also no fractional stitches nor backstitching required.

"Bear Country"

The face of the bear is starting to appear. I enjoy stitching the "Bear Country" design as there are no fractional stitches to deal with. I will be taking this design with me to our Quadra Island stitch get-together over the weekend.

"Meerkat Standing"

http://www.yiotas-xstitch.com/ "cross stitch kits"

This is the beginning of my stitching "Meerkat Standing". It is a joy to stitch because Yiotas provided threads already wrapped in bobbins so there is no sorting to do before starting the stitch. This prevents the guessing of which color represents which symbols. I really appreciate that since my eyes are not as great as they used to be. The chart is in large print and very easy on my eyes too. There are no fractional stitches nor backstitching to stitch when done. She also provided DMC threads conversion for the threads that came with the kit. I am really looking forward to watching this meerkat develop as my needles continue to stitch.

"Bear Country"

I will also be stitching "Bear Country" as well. I started this on the fabric that came with the chart but it was too short so I switched over to 28 ct Lugana, Anitque white and I have 3 inches around for framing. The original fabric is 14 ct light oatmeal. This is an unique design as well. Designer is Joyce Cleveland.

"Meerkat Standing"

This is "Meerkat Standing" which I will be stitching. The owner and designer is Yiotas Christodoulou. (Yiotas XStitch) Her website address is http://www.yiotas-xstitch.com

I just received the kit and I will be posting my update of the "Meerkat Standing".

Name tag

I just finished stitching the name tag for an upcoming stitch get together in Sept on Quadra Island, which is across from Campbell River in Vancouver Island, B.C.

The design is stitched on 28ct evenweave with DMC threads. Since I have attended several conventions in the past, I took one of my old plastic name tag holder to insert the stitched name tag that I made.

Margaret Sherry's duck

I stitched this for the June Challenge. Stella told a story and the members were to guess by stitching one of Margaret Sherry's chart to match the story. I stitched the duck swimming.... the winner was "Lazy Day", which is Archie and a dog sitting in a lawn chair. It was a fun challenge!

Disney- "Let's Bounce"

I have one more character to stitch. Tigger on the top of Rabbit and Winnie the Pooh. It is stitched on 16ct aida. It is 6" by 20" in design. I am thinking of making it into a oblong tube with elastic on the bottom and a loop to hang it up. I will either put plastic bags from the grocery store to store it and use when needed or put my socks in and hang up in my RV. It will give me more space to put my clothes into drawer and this will keep all of my socks together in one tube.

"Africa Safari"

This is as far as I will go for now. I am switching over to another one of my stitching project to give my eyes a rest. I noticed that the designer of this chart forgot to include the letter "K" in this sampler. I may have to stitch the letter "K" but not sure where at this time.

Siamese Cat Bookmark

I just finished stitching this Siamese Cat Bookmark from Jill Oxton's magazine. I was thinking about my sister who passed away 3 years ago from cancer and she used to have Siamese cats for most of her life. When she left, she had 4 Siamese cats at the time. So I was in the mood to stitch a bookmark in memory of her.

"Humble Adobe"

I decided to switch over from 25ct to 28 ct 2 over 2. It will be 56"H by 46" W when done. My eyes were becoming sore and I think I was straining them after stitching over an hour on 25ct one over one. The last straw was when I made an error and I was unable to frog the thread without damaging the fabric on 25ct. I am enjoying stitching on this fabric so far.

I am stitching "Let's Bounce" from Disney on 14ct aida with DMC threads.

This is my progress so far. It is in rotation with my other stitching projects.

"Herd of Elephants"

This is one of my oldest UFO. I had forgotten that I put it aside for another project. This will be a large design. It is stitched on 14ct aida with DMC threads.

SanMan 4 seasons freebie

I will be stitching this SanMan 4 seasons into a bookmark. I just have the backstitching on the months left to do. Each corner of the bookmark will have a different charm from the button company. ( acorn, bee, flower, snowflake) I have learned that it is very difficult for me to stitch on a dark fabric. This is 28ct dark grey, Cashell linen.

progress of "O'Canada"

I am stitching in rotation for this week about 5 different projects.

This is "O'Canada" stitched on 28 ct linen with DMC threads.

Designer by Sandy Orton.

Meerkat bookmark
